Elia began practicing yoga at the age of 22, his practice of asana first began at home and from his first class was a matter of sheer necessity, than just choice or opportunity. Learning the method and practice of Hatha Yoga led to his eventual training and certification in 2006. Elia went on to broaden his experience by training in various other methods, of which Iyengar and Ashtanga have had the biggest effects. His gratitude extends to some of his most influential teachers and mentors including Roger Cole, PhD, Carolyn Belko and Usha Devi of Rishikesh, India. In 2013, a 7 month study at the Iyengar Institute in India (RIMYI) with the Iyengar family and their teachers has allowed him to understand and refine his own grasp on the subject and lay the framework for creating his own classes. A hunger to develop a sensitive touch and awareness toward the individual needs of his students led Elia to an apprenticeship from Rachael Krentzman PT, E-RYT. Elia continues to be humbled and inspired by the lessons of yoga.
